Massage is a holistic, non-invasive approach for restoring balance to your body and nervous system. Like a sort of physical ʻtune-upʼ, massage therapy promotes increased body awareness and relaxation.
A body out of balance requires a lot of energy in attempting to regain stability. This can often result in fatigue and pain. The places that are "stuck" receive less oxygen and nutrient exchange. In Chinese medicine this is defined as "blocked chi."
Through awareness of breathing, calming of the nervous system, and re-aligning the musculoskeletal, and fascial (connective tissue) systems, energy is freed for healing, allowing your body to perform every-day tasks with more ease.
Many of us are caught up in our minds, and pay less attention to what our bodies are telling us. Often we put our selves last, and we're conditioned to mentally block (or work through) pain, rather than listen to what is happening in our bodies. The combined physical, emotional, and environmental stresses of life tax all of our bodily systems, including our immune systems.
The best time to get a massage is before your body begins to break down from all these stressors. An ounce of prevention is truly worth more than a pound of cure. And it tends to be much less expensive in the long run!
My goal with massage therapy treatments is to re-establish or enhance the dialogue between your brain and your body so that you develop some strategies to enhance your body's natural healing process. Pain and fatigue are like thieves that steal your vitality. Working together we can often head those thieves off at the pass.
I believe our bodies are our instruments and the more attention and awareness that we bring to them the better we can play in them and enjoy true quality of life and health!
